Contact the developer
Email researchlogbookapp@outlook.com or use the feedback, support and privacy form. Research Logbook is developed by Dimas Visser in the Netherlands. No response time is promised. A reply address is optional; without one, an individual reply is not possible.
Read the privacy notice before sending information. Describe the version from About, what you tried, what you expected and what happened. Use a made-up example. Technical context and a redacted screenshot are optional. Do not upload a notebook, backup, session file, password, identity document or confidential research. Remove names and local paths from screenshots.
If writing or saving fails
Keep the window and your draft open. If a conflict appears, compare the saved and draft versions before replacing anything. Save other editors and windows separately. A “Saved” message confirms the local file; it does not confirm a cloud copy or separate backup. Local history/recovery is not a separate backup.
Find or restore your notebook
Folder opens the current files. About → Open another notebook folder saves the current daily entry and opens a chooser, while keeping the current notebook available. Cancel keeps your prior location. Hold Shift while launching to select a moved or restored notebook. Reconnect an unavailable drive; an empty replacement folder does not recover missing notes.
For a new notebook choose an empty user-owned folder outside installed software and AppData. For an older portable pilot, select Logbook Files rather than the outer software folder. Existing settings and templates are preserved.
To restore a backup, first save and quit all windows and keep the original and backup. Extract into a new empty user-owned folder, preserving the folder structure. Hold Shift while opening and select that folder. Verify notes, pictures, templates, authors, tasks and review. Never overwrite your only working copy or extract a notebook into installed software.
Make a separate backup
The built-in backup includes saved Markdown, history/recovery, settings, editable templates and imported images, up to 100 MB. It excludes other linked files, software, session state and browser-only unsaved drafts. For a complete or larger copy, save and quit all notebook windows, then copy the folder to separate private storage. Notebook files and backups are not encrypted by the app.
Installation and updates
Public beta installation is still pending. Follow the status page for the approved Microsoft Store link when available. Store delivery will handle approved updates. Managed-device policies may prevent installation or the local persistence worker; ask the device administrator for a permitted route.
Save, quit and make a separate backup before an update or removal. Removing the app through Windows Settings is not notebook erasure. A reinstalled app may ask you to select the retained notebook folder again. Actual Store install, update and removal testing remains open.
Privacy requests
Use the same project email or privacy form. Give only enough information to identify your online record, such as the address used and approximate date. Do not send identity documents. The developer cannot remotely read or delete your local notebook; the privacy notice explains local copies and your online-record rights.
